The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) recently reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender equality in sport by participating in the 3rd ANOCA Gender Equality Forum held in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 11–12 November 2025.

EOCGA was represented by its President, Mr. Adam Mthethwa, and Gender Commission member, Mr. Clement Dlamini. Their participation formed part of a continental effort to strengthen gender mainstreaming within the African Olympic movement. The forum brought together leaders, policymakers and gender advocates from across the continent to exchange ideas and develop strategies that promote inclusion, empower women in sport and expand leadership opportunities for future generations.

The gathering in Burundi was guided by the theme “Gender Equality in African Sport: Unlocking Potential, Accompanying Generations.” Discussions centred on improving women’s representation in sports leadership, enhancing capacity across National Olympic Committees, and aligning gender policies with continental and global standards. The forum also offered a platform for sharing best practices and strengthening collaboration among nations.

This engagement came at a particularly opportune time for Eswatini. Just a day after returning from Burundi, the EOCGA President oversaw the hosting of Eswatini’s own National Gender Equality and Safe Sport Forum at Sibayeni Lodge in Matsapha. The close alignment of these events reflects Eswatini’s growing momentum and commitment to creating safer, more inclusive and gender-responsive sporting environments at both national and continental levels.

Through meaningful participation in regional initiatives and the immediate application of continental insights at home, the EOCGA continues to position itself as a proactive leader in promoting gender equity within sport. The Association remains committed to driving long-term change across federations, leadership structures and athlete development pathways throughout Eswatini.
