Local Athletes Commission representatives in Darren Dunn and Pretty Simelane successfully attended the Athletes Forum which was hosted by the National Olympic of Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee recently hosted a forum that aimed to create a positive change in the sports industry. The forum kicked off with an opening speech by ANOCA Zone VI President Alfred Foloko. Foloko expressed his hope that the forum would serve as a catalyst for positive change, creating an environment in which athletes can thrive, have their voices heard, and ensure their rights and well-being are protected. The goal is to build a brighter future for sports in the region, one that celebrates excellence, promotes inclusivity, and inspires future generations.

The choice of Zimbabwe as the host nation is particularly significant, as it is home to one of the most successful Olympians in Africa. The Honorable Kirsty Coventry, who is the guest of honor at the forum, has an impressive Olympic record, having competed five times and winning two gold medals. Her previous role as the chair of the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission demonstrates her deep understanding of the challenges and aspirations of athletes in the region.

During the first day of the forum, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honorable Kirsty Coventry, delivered the keynote address. The forum has attracted Athlete Commission representatives from 10 ANOCA Zone VI Member Countries.
