Sibusiso Matsenjwa, President of the Eswatini Athletes Commission and former Olympian, recently attended the 12th IOC International Athletes’ Forum in Lausanne, Switzerland – The Olympic Capital.
Hosted by the IOC Athletes’ Commission, this prestigious forum is the largest global gathering of athlete representatives, bringing together commissions from all Olympic sports and nations. Held at the SwissTech Convention Centre from 11–12 June 2025, the forum served as a vital platform to address key issues affecting athletes worldwide and to reinforce the athlete voice within the Olympic Movement.
Mr. Matsenjwa’s participation ensured that Eswatini’s athlete community was represented and actively engaged in shaping the future of sport. His involvement reaffirmed how impactful sport can be—not only in fostering unity and excellence but also in empowering individuals to contribute meaningfully beyond their competitive careers. As a former Olympian, Matsenjwa stands as a testament to the fact that there is indeed life after sport, and that athletes can continue to influence and inspire long after leaving the field of play.
During a special dinner at the Olympic Museum, Mr. Matsenjwa also seized the moment to advocate for road safety awareness. He highlighted that while athletes devote themselves to excellence on the track, field, or court, their safety on the road remains just as critical. Whether commuting to training, competitions, or recreational runs, road safety must be prioritized to safeguard lives, careers, and the future of sport.
