The National Olympic Committee of Eswatini was proud to be among the National Olympic Committees that took part in the Erasmus+ Capacity-Building Workshop, an initiative hosted by the Cape Verde Olympic Committee (COC) and financed by Olympic Solidarity, which took place from 18–23 August in Praia, Cape Verde.

The five-day program brought together representatives of Olympic Committees from Africa and South America with the aim of strengthening their competencies in accessing and implementing projects under the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. The workshop equipped participants with essential knowledge in proposal development, fundraising strategies, and effective communication with donors—critical tools for enhancing resource mobilization and ensuring long-term sustainability of sport-for-development initiatives.

Eswatini was represented by Mr. Thoba Mazibuko, Director of the OlympAfrica Centre in Lobamba, who joined fellow delegates in exploring innovative approaches to building partnerships and unlocking funding opportunities. Through this engagement, Mazibuko gained practical experience and valuable insights that will support the growth of Eswatini’s community-based sports programs.

Reflecting on the experience, Mazibuko noted: “This workshop was an excellent opportunity for Eswatini to learn from peers across the continent and beyond. The skills and networks we developed will go a long way in helping us design impactful projects that open new opportunities for young people and communities back home.”

His participation marked a significant step forward for Eswatini, demonstrating the country’s commitment to leveraging international platforms for local development. The National Olympic Committee of Eswatini believes that the outcomes of this initiative will contribute to strengthening the role of sport as a driver of education, empowerment, and social transformation.

The OlympAfrica Centre in Lobamba continues to serve as a hub for youth empowerment, education, and sport-for-development. By engaging in initiatives such as the Erasmus+ workshop, Eswatini has reaffirmed its determination to pursue sustainable partnerships and broaden opportunities for young people across the Kingdom.
