The Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) has, for several months been compiling a comprehensive proposal to the International Olympic Committee through the local National Olympic Committee (NOC), for the Development of National Sports System (DNSS) fund.
The association is filled with pride and joy following the approval of their proposal for $30,000. This funding which is available for federations is the second of a possible four that can be awarded to national federations in each quadrennial. The previous recipient being Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA).
The launch which took place at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Offices head offices on the 09th of February 2024. Giving out the dummy cheque was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EOCGA Maxwell Jele to ESA President Welcome Nhlabatsi.
The CEO congratulated the association for their efforts to align with the funding requirements and hoped that the funds would help create stability in many aspects of the association. He also highlighted that such funding is available to all associations that met the criterion for funding and as such encouraged associations to align themselves accordingly.
He also mentioned that Eswatini Athletics (AE) is close to receiving the same funding, but he declined to comment further until the process was finalized.
ESA President, welcome Nhlabatsi appreciated EOCGA for their continued support and assured the mother body to hit the ground running with the funds and at the top of the list is to make sure they put more focus on their competitions menu, in particular open water where in the past they used athletes that also competed in short distances.
