The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association has signed an MOU with the Russian Olympic Committee. The signing occurred yesterday in St. Petersburg-Russia on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit. The MOU was signed by the President of EOCGA, Mr. Adam “Bomber” Mthethwa, together with his counterpart, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mr. Stanislav Pozdnyakov. The EOCGA President has been accompanied by the Treasurer of EOCGA, Zakhele Zulu. They will be in Russia for 3 days during the Russia-Africa Summit.
The MOU between the two organisations will primarily focus on availing opportunities for athletes training and the development of both organizations. It is worth noting that Eswatini is currently benefiting through a Boxing scholarship where our top Boxer, Thabiso Dlamini has been training in Russia in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics. We will also recall that just 2 months ago, we sent a delegation of 4 young athletes to attend the Young Olympians International Forum, which was held in Moscow. Both these activities have been fully funded by ROC.
In this regard, we would like to acknowledge and thank the Russians for their support, and are optimistic that these opportunities will unearth further talent within our young sports athletes. This will assist in ensuring that we compete effectively at multi sport international Games, such as the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
