The Board of EOCGA had engaged in a Board Orientation Retreat that had commenced on Friday, January 24, and had concluded on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Comprehensive Sessions and Training
This retreat had been a thorough endeavor that had included sessions covering the induction of new members, discussions about programs and financial perspectives, and the facilitation of Corporate Governance and Leadership training conducted by SAMKHO.
Focus on Key Projects
During the induction phase, the Board had concentrated on significant initiatives that had been planned for rollout over the next four years. Among these initiatives had been the launch and execution of the newly formulated High Performance Strategy, which had aimed to guide the organization toward an Olympic Podium finish within twelve years. The rollout of this strategy had been scheduled for next month. Another vital project had involved the transformation of the Olympafrica Centre into a fully operational High Performance Centre. Given the scale of this undertaking, the Board had determined that it would be executed in phases, beginning with the creation and budgeting of architectural designs in the upcoming months. Additionally, the Board had intended to introduce a comprehensive program on Olympic Education to further strengthen the organization’s legacy.
Appointments of Commissions and Committees
To prevent any delays in the implementation of activities, the Board had also appointed all Standing Commissions and Committees, which had been set to be led by Board Members. This opportunity had also allowed the Board to include several Presidents of National Sports Federations in these Commissions. The CEO had been tasked with issuing appointment letters without delay.
International Multi-Sports Games Schedule
Regarding the International Multi-Sports Games, it had been exciting to note that the 2025-2028 quadrennial had been filled with activities for athletes. In that year, EOCGA had been set to lead teams to three significant Youth Games:
- AUSC Region V Youth Games: Planned to take place in Windhoek, Namibia, in July 2025.
- African School Sports Games: Scheduled for Algiers, Algeria, also in July 2025.
- ANOCA Youth Games: Set for Luanda, Angola, in December 2025.
Leadership Announcement
As the press conference had concluded, there had been interest among EOCGA members regarding the status of the Head of Administration. It had been gratifying to inform that the new Board, as mandated by the EOCGA Constitution, had addressed the appointment of the Secretary General/CEO. In this regard, it had been announced that the Board had secured the services of Maxwell Jele as the CEO of EOCGA for the next four years.
