ANOCA Zone VI welcomed new leadership following its recent elections held at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Malawi.
Hon. Jappie Mhango, the President of the Malawi Olympic Committee, won the presidential election for a four-year term, defeating South Africa’s Barry Eugene Hendricks by a vote of 7-4. Mhango’s victory marked a significant change in leadership, as the outgoing president, Zambia’s Alfred Foloko, chose not to run for re-election after serving in the role.
The newly elected Board included Jappie Mhango as President, Gonye Thaban from Zimbabwe as Vice President, Maxwell Jele from Eswatini as Secretary General, and Morake Raleaka from Lesotho as Treasurer. The Board also featured members Hazel Kennedy from Zambia, Diana Ahrens from Namibia, and Botsang Tsenyego from Botswana.
ANOCA Zone VI, which includes Southern African nations, plays a vital role in promoting and coordinating Olympic activities across the region. The recent election results herald a new chapter in leadership focused on enhancing sports development, prioritizing athlete welfare, and fostering regional collaboration within the Olympic movement.
