The ANOCA Zone VI Board held its in-person orientation session on 7 July 2025 at the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) offices in Windhoek. The gathering marked a significant step toward enhancing governance, unity, and strategic coherence within the region’s Olympic Movement.

Coinciding with the ongoing AUSC Region 5 U20 Youth Games, the orientation benefited from a fitting and vibrant setting that reinforced the region’s dedication to youth development and empowerment through sport.

The session was further elevated by the presence of former ANOCA Zone VI President, Mr. Alfred Foloko. A highly regarded leader in African sport, Mr. Foloko shared invaluable reflections and guidance from his leadership experience, encouraging the new board to focus on athlete development, regional collaboration, and sound governance practices.

Hosted by the NNOC, the orientation served as a vital platform for the board to align on strategic priorities, define operational structures, and strengthen unity among member nations. The discussions also highlighted the importance of speaking with a unified voice within both African and global Olympic arenas.

Commenting on the session, ANOCA Zone VI Secretary General Mr. Maxwell Jele shared his reflections:

“I can say the meeting went very well, with all ANOCA Zone VI board members present. We were honoured to be joined by the former President, Mr. Alfred Foloko, whose participation was part of the handover process from the previous board to the current one.

This orientation took place on the margins of the Region 5 Youth Games, to which the ANOCA Zone VI Board was invited. We engaged in several activities, including the Inter-Ministerial Forum held on 6 July.

A key achievement of the orientation was the establishment of ANOCA Zone VI Commissions, each chaired by a board member. These will soon be expanded through nominations from our 10 member National Olympic Committees, selecting individuals with the relevant skills aligned with the commissions’ terms of reference.”

This milestone reflects ANOCA Zone VI’s shared vision to build a well-informed, united, and action-oriented leadership team—anchored by the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

As the Youth Games continue in Namibia, the board moves ahead with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to drive forward the regional Olympic agenda and invest in the future of sport across Southern Africa.
