The EOCGA is a proud supporter of local athletes and the development of sport in Eswatini. Not only do we wish to see athletic achievements on a local scale, but we strive to provide the structure and opportunity for our athletes to succeed at an elite level and represent our programs on the world stage.
One way that this is possible is with the aid of the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship Program. The program allows for select elite athletes to receive financial subsidies to enable them to train with the goal of competing in the Olympics. Subsidies are designed to cover costs for expenses such as specialized coaches, medical treatment, and travel costs to qualification events.
Sibusiso Matsenjwa and Phumlile Ndzinisa were Eswatini’s representatives at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two athletes were also on scholarship at this time.
The EOCGA acknowledges the importance of giving back to youth and inspiring young athletes. We believe our athletes have a responsibility to be involved in the community as ambassadors of the values of sport. Our high-level athletes have the opportunity to be role models and represent hope for our young, aspiring athletes and we work to put our athletes in positions to succeed in giving back.
