The first African Games was hosted in Brazzaville, Congo in 1965. Only two more were hosted between 1965 and 1987, but the event has been hosted every four years since 1987. Eswatini has been in attendance for each of the games outside of Brazzaville 1965.

The next African Games is being hosted in Rabat, Morocco in 2019.
