The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association hosted the annual “Olympic Day” this past weekend. However, things were different this year as multiple events were hosted! Not to mention, there is still another Olympic Day upcoming on the 13th of July in Siteki.
As for the events that have passed, the EOCGA couldn’t be more encouraged by the support received from the host communities. Over 1000 people and nine national sports associations came and participated between the two events combined. In addition, the Olympafrica Sports Development Centre provided a great team of volunteers that allowed our event to run smoothly. Also, we certainly can’t forget that Eswatini’s National Olympic Committee mascot, “Swazinge” made an appearance. Each of these contributions from everyone involved supported the idea that there is a true passion for sport and Olympism in Eswatini.

Mbabane:
This was the bigger of the two events and Mbabane’s Olympic Day was hosted at the Prince of Wales stadium on the 5th of July. Students from six different schools were present and participating, including: Mbabane Lutheran Primary, Ntutewkweni Primary, Evangelical Primary, Bahai Primary, Helemisi Primary and Malkerns Valley Primary. These students made up the large majority of the 662 registrants at the event (288 male, 374 female).

Kukhanyeni:
Olympic Day in Kukhanyeni was welcomed with open arms by those at the Kukhanyeni sports grounds. The day was kicked off with 5km and 10km runs and included gymnastics, tug-of-war and everything in between. The day concluded with a medal and Olympic Day certificate ceremony for the participants. 352 people (178 male, 174 female) took part in the event that took place on the 6th of July.

Stayed tuned for more pictures from the events to be posted on our Photo Gallery page very soon!
Don’t forget, you can participate in our last Olympic Day of the year this Saturday, July 13th at KaLanga Sports Ground in Siteki. We hope to see you there!
