At our Olympic Day 2019 event, there will be a trio of themes guiding the activities that will be taking place. Leading up to our first Olympic Day event, we will be focusing on each of these themes and what they mean to the EOCGA. The second portion of our three-part focus on this year’s Olympic Day themes is “Learn”.
One of our goals for Olympic Day is to encourage the leaders in our host communities to adopt the Olympic Values Education Program (OVEP). OVEP is a program that provides learning resources to these leaders that are designed to help inspire youth to experience life values such as excellence, respect, and friendship. You can read more about OVEP by clicking here.
While “Learn” is one of the main themes of Olympic Day, did you know there are also five educational themes of Olympism?
- Experiencing the joy of effort
- Learning to play fair
- practising respect for oneself and others
- pursuit of excellence
- living a harmonious and balanced life of body, will, and mind
Of course, on Olympic Day we will aspire to teach participants about the Olympic values, our own local values initiatives, and why they are important. Sport is one of the most engaging classrooms you can find, so our teaching will surely be done in a fun way!
Stayed engaged with our social media accounts and our website for the focus on our third theme of Olympic Day: “Discover”.
